On January 26, 2025, a street in Odessa was renamed in honor of a family of doctors who saved hundreds of patients from execution during World War II.
Liza Chaykina Street, now named after the Shevalov family of Odessa doctors, has been renamed. The street is located in the Peresypsky district of the city and stretches from Academician Vorobiev Street to Parkova Street.
During the German-Romanian occupation of Odessa in 1941-1944, Yevgeny Alexandrovich, together with his son Andriy, a student at the medical institute at that time, and his colleagues, managed to save the medical institution and its patients, some of whom were of Jewish origin.
On April 12, 2001, Yad Vashem (Israel) honored Yevgeny Shevalev and his son Andriy Shevalev with the honorary title of Righteous Among the Nations.
The Genocide Museum "Territory of Memory" houses an exhibition dedicated to Professor Shevalev, and the NGO "Odessa Holocaust Research Center" established a medal named after Professor Yevgeny Shevalev.
